What is “Recap”?

October 15, 2018 Comments: 2

To begin, MasterELD’s Recap feature works off the 70 hours on-duty in rolling 8 days rule.

As a day ends at midnight, the hours worked 8 days ago “drop off” and are “recaptured” and added to any available 70 hour on duty cycle hours, for use the following day.

For example, if you were to start driving right after fresh 34-hour restart, with full 70 hours:

  • Monday day 1 – 70 hours available – 2 hours worked on-duty
  • Tuesday day 2 – 68 hours available – 8 hours worked on-duty
  • Wednesday day 3 – 60 hours available – 8 hours worked on-duty
  • Thursday day 4 – 52 hours available – 10 hours worked on-duty
  • Friday day 5 – 42 hours available – 8 hours worked on-duty
  • Saturday day 6 – 34 hours available – 10 hours worked on-duty
  • Sunday day 7 – 24 hours available – 10 hours worked on-duty
  • Monday day 8 – 14 hours available – 10 hours worked on-duty
  • Tuesday day 9 – 4 hours available PLUS 2 hours “Recaptured” from Monday day 1.
  • Total available 6 hours on-duty

Although confusing, this feature can be advantageous to drivers not wishing to idle at receivers draining their available on-duty time.
